Cooking Oil Tester (TPM) won't turn on, won't charge, or drains quickly

Troubleshooting | Fix power and charging problems on your Cooking Oil Tester (TPM), from a blank screen to fast battery drain.

Before You Start

Most power problems with the Cooking Oil Tester (TPM) come down to charging. Have the charging cable and a proper USB charger handy before you start.

Steps to Fix

  1. Charge the tester for a while, then press the Power button again.

  2. Check you are using a 5V, 1A (or higher) USB charger. A low-output charger may not work.

  3. Try a different Micro-USB cable.

  4. Check the charging port for dust, oil, or moisture and clean it gently.

  5. If the battery drains quickly, turn the screen brightness down, let the tester switch off when idle, and turn it off between checks.

If Still Not Working

If the tester will not turn on after a full charge, or the charging indicator never appears, it may need repair — see When to repair or replace your Cooking Oil Tester (TPM).

Why This Happens

A blank screen is usually just a flat battery. Charging problems are most often an underpowered charger, a faulty cable, or a dirty charging port. Fast battery drain is usually caused by a bright screen or the tester being left on.
