How to change settings on the Cooking Oil Tester (TPM)

How-To | Change the time, temperature units, and brightness on your Cooking Oil Tester (TPM).

Before You Start

You can change a few handy settings on your Cooking Oil Tester (TPM), such as the time, the temperature units, and the screen brightness. All of these live in the tester's menu.

Some menu items change how the tester reads or wipe your settings, so it is best to leave those alone unless you are following a specific guide.

Steps

  1. Press and hold the H key for 3 seconds to open the menu.

  2. Use the Up and Down arrows to move between options.

  3. Press H to select an option and to confirm a change.

  4. To leave the menu, move to Return and press H.

Settings you may want to change:

  • Time — set the current date and time.

  • Temperature unit — switch between °C and °F.

  • Brightness — turn it down to save battery.

  • Auto (Auto Hold) — on by default. When it's on, the tester automatically locks a reading on screen once it settles, so you can view and record it even after taking the probe out of the oil. To take a new reading at any time, press H to release the held value. If you'd rather the tester never auto-lock a reading, open the menu and turn Auto off — use the up and down arrows to select Auto, press H, switch it to OFF, then press H again to save.

Settings to leave alone:

  • TPM Adjust — this changes the calibration. Only use it when following How to adjust the calibration on your Cooking Oil Tester (TPM).

  • Factory Reset — this wipes your settings. Only use it if the support team asks you to.
